Tamagotchi Kids at Glasgow gallery and café The Alchemy Experiment is the first in a long-term series of collaborations, led by artist-curator J D Nealon, featuring artists Jamie Steedman and Josh Rowell. The Tamagotchi is a hand-held ‘virtual’ pet which was one of the first mass-consumer digital phenomena in the 1990s. The title refers to the generational perspective shared by the participants, all of whom were born between 1990 and 1997 and came of age between the analogue and digital eras.
Next up is Sofya Tagor: I will return someday. A Russian immigrant, Sofya combines drawing, painting and film to explore the theme of displacement through her own experience of living between two countries. The work captures a feeling of disconnection and mourning for the impossibility of a return.
Additionally, a new publication, It’ll Be Alright has launched, and can be ordered via the gallery’s website (see panel).
