Online until 13th June
Edinburgh’s Fine Art Society is presenting an online exhibition of the work of Ron Sandford (b.1937, Greenock) 114°E / 1°W Hong Kong to Shetland. Drawing together his impressions of two culturally distinct and distant islands – Hong Kong and Yell – in an exhibition of drawings he showcases in rich detail his appreciation of the telling aspects of life, architecture and landscape.
Having graduated at Glasgow School of Art in etching and engraving, he attended the Royal College of Art studying Graphics with Edward Bawden, and went on to teach in a number of prominent art schools, illustrating books and newspapers and undertaking large-scale architectural commissions. His eye for detail is reflected in the old rope, wild flowers, trout, geese and sheep in Shetland and in the east, broken tiles, lanterns, tropical plants and pan-tiled roofs.
The exhibition comes recommended as a great example of how to present an online show – an easily-navigable virtual walk-through with detailed information and good-quality images, and a comprehensive pdf catalogue.
