The Fine Art Society in Edinburgh, is presenting MODERN, an exhibition of 20th century art and design, painting, printmaking, sculpture and furniture, produced by major British artists across the last century, including George Houston, Wilhelmina Barns-Graham, Cecile Walton, Anne Redpath and Robert MacBryde among many others. These are presented alongside mid-century furniture from Italy and pieces by Sir Terence Conran, George Nelson and Borge Mogensen.
John Byrne: Then Till Now is a small exhibition of paintings, drawings and prints by John Byrne (born 1940), dating from the late 1960s to today. Early works include watercolours signed ‘Patrick’, and a hand-painted guitar from 1968. (Robbie Coltrane is depicted as Danny McGlone from the BBC’s Tutti Frutti, written by Byrne.) More recent works explore noir, rock’n’roll and teddy boy culture, capped by a self-portrait painted this year.
