Looking for Festive gift ideas? One of the biggest Christmas gift fairs is the Country Living Fair at the SECC in Glasgow on 20-23 November. It’s a foodie’s paradise with lots of food products and accessories for the table and kitchen. Then there is a host of top chefs demonstrating mouth-watering dishes. John Quigley, chef-patron of Glasgow’s Red Onion restaurant, is planning to share his secrets for feeding the army of visitors you get calling in at Christmastime. Mark Heirs, chef director of Monteith’s Private Dining of Stirling will be showing how to home-cure salmon for his whisky-cured Scottish smoked salmon with a beetroot, orange and hazelnut salad. Neil Forbes, chef-patron of Cafe St Honoré in Edinburgh plans to do a “simple, elegant, delicious dish” of venison with barley and greens. And Glasgow-based author Karon Grieve will be adding “Christmas Cheer” in her drink-inspired sessions.
Some of Scotland’s Farmers Markets will have special Christmas dates or additional markets. There will be markets as part of Christmas light switch-ons in Carluke (28 November early evening); Linlithgow (29 November in addition to regular monthly market on 22 November); West Calder (29 November); Cambuslang (30 November); Montrose (30 November); Peebles Christmas Lights (4 December).
