The Pitt – Edinburgh’s Food and Drink Yard is a monthly event – soon to go weekly from 18 June is a welcome addition of impromptu eating. Set up in a rental car space just off Pitt Street – just off Newhaven Road – you need to know its there ( though I was reassured last night when I cycled down as a sweet smell of barbecue was wafting up this residential tenemented street). Food trucks compete for space and there are no substandard burgers in a bun here – check out the impressive list – – its a question of would I like the whisky matured Thistly Cross cider or the regular cider? Crab and chips or perhaps a slow cooked beef in a bun or a spicy chicken quesadilla or nacho? Then finish off with a toasted marshmallow from The Marshmallow Lady or a shiny icing-rich cupcake: take your pick from a typical selection: Rost Eats, Zoopa Zoopa, barnacles & bones, The Buffalo Food Truck, ShrimpWreck, Umami Spice Girl Ltd, Chompsky, SWEET by The Marshmallow Lady
drinks: bearded barista, Barney’s Beer, Smith & Gertrude, Cocktails & Drams
This is one stylish open food market. Braziers are lit to keep of the cold once sun set and there is live music to add to atmosphere. Big sharing tables made up from recycled pallets take up any left over space so fun to mingle and mix as you plan your next food attack.
