Scotland’s National Portrait Gallery has re-opened with restricted hours: the Gallery is open  10am to 5pm, from Sunday to Tuesday, with entry free and ticketed via the Gallery’s website. Having signed-up to the Good to Go scheme, the Gallery is keen to show it is committed to meeting current Scottish Government health and safety standards for buildings and staff.

Among the several exhibitions on show is You Are Here, featuring the pictured painting ‘Emeli Sandé, b. 1987. Singer and Songwriter’ by self-taught artist Samira Addo, who won tv competition Sky Arts’ Portrait Artist of the Year 2018. The first time Samira painted a sitter from life was in the heats for this competition, and this was the portrait she painted in the final. The exhibition, on show until Sun 31st Jan 2021, explores some of the issues facing Scotland right now, with people across the country having been invited to submit stories, portraits and ideas about the future; these pieces from the public are shown alongside five striking examples of portraiture from the national collection.
