The Atelier Gallery in Edinburgh’s New Town is staging Beyond The Surface: The Art of Texture, featuring three artists – Linda Park, Alison Cowan and Avril Scott – examining different media as tactile forces, showcasing paint’s versatility, and how it can can alter our perception of space, by creating a visceral experience with material volume, featuring heavy oils, impasto acrylics, and gritty multimedia fusion.

Treating paint as a tactile force, the display demonstrates how, by moving away from the flat canvas, these artists explore the structural potential of paint, transforming it into a tangible, three-dimensional experience.

Begun in 2018, the Gallery encourages the creation and presentation of original art in a welcoming environment, and ease the journey from artist to buyer, representing artists in such a way that viewers can become more familiar with them – their mindsets, motivations and inspirations – by showcasing a carefully-selected group of established and emerging artists, many them new to Edinburgh’s art scene.
