Expanding in the east

The man behind a successful gastro pub in Edinburgh’s West End is celebrating the launch of his latest venture. Graham Blaikie, owner of the Mercat Bar & Restaurant in West Maitland Street, has opened the Mercat Grill at Whitecraig, in East Lothian. And he is setting his sights high: “We’ll be focusing on providing really good quality food, made from locally sourced, fresh produce. We’re members of the Scotch Beef Club, which means we’re regarded as being a ‘cut above the rest’ in relation to other restaurants and for being ambassadors in serving, fresh, well produced Scotch beef. We’ve got a great selection of wines, craft Scottish beers though to speciality teas, coffees and soft drinks. We want to create a destination venue which appeals to everyone from families, couples, business people to tourists who are looking for a friendly, stylish yet homely place to relax, dine, drink and sleep.” The Grill has already undergone extensive refurbishment, but Graham aims to continue investing in the site. “We plan to reinvest into the business, create additional local jobs, expand the restaurant, create ‘inn’ style accommodation and a roof top terrace for dining and drinking.”
