A major retrospective exhibition of paintings and prints by Elspeth Haston (born 1932) surveys a career of over seventy years – the first time so many works have been shown together.

Originally from Aberdeenshire, Elspeth studied sculpture at Gray’s School of Art, followed by a career as a painter, exhibiting extensively in the northeast of Scotland. She recently moved to East Lothian, where she continues to paint as well as reviving her interest in printmaking. Her paintings in watercolour and oil have a looseness and spontaneity and, by working outdoors in all weathers, she achieves a directness to the subject, capturing the colour and atmosphere unique to the time and place.

She has travelled extensively in Britain, France, Spain and Portugal, exploring hidden side roads and tracks to find remote painting places, pursuing her passion for fishing villages and harbours with working people and their boats.
