A new online exhibition at Edinburgh Printmakers, Choose to Challenge, showcases the work of five leading contemporary artists as part of 2021’s International Women’s Day celebrations, with new prints by Maya Hollis, Kristin Nordhøy and Jenny Pope join works by Ruth Ewan and Moyna Flanigan, available to buy via the Printmakers’ viewing rooms. Works will be selected from artists’ residencies at Edinburgh Printmakers, and explore new imagery in the artists’ practices, harnessing the power of printmaking for social justice and reframing the use of photography in print.

This is the third of a series of digital exhibitions showcasing collections of rare or previously-unseen prints from Edinburgh Printmakers’ archives – home to over 4,000 prints; it highlights the continued work needed to achieve equality for women and other minority groups in the art world, with less than 14% of contemporary artists represented by galleries in Europe and North America being women, and as little as 4% of auction art sales in 2008 to 2019.

Purchasers can choose to take advantage of the Own Art interest-free purchase scheme.

Edinburgh Printmakers is looking for a Studio Director, with applications closing 22nd March 2021.
