Established in 1947, Edinburgh International Film Festival is the world’s oldest continually-running film festival, and normally takes the form every June of a fortnight of cinema screenings and related events. With the Covid lockdown, following its online initiative #EdFilmFestAtHome, a monthly drive-in cinema event has been launched, planned to show at weekends for the rest of the year. Drive In Movies features up to four screenings a day, starting with a Kids Club at 10am, Family Favourites in the afternoon, an evening blockbuster and late-night screenings of Cult Classics for adults, with special Hallowe’en and Christmas screenings and activities in October and December.
September’s line-up includes classics such as Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, Back to the Future, Toy Story and Rocketman.
A ‘car disco’, interactive on-screen quiz with prizes, food and snacks will local food suppliers will be on offer. The will take place on the last weekend of every month at Edinburgh Airport. Tickets for Thu 24th Sep – Sun 27th Sep are on sale now via the event website.
