Cumbrian artist Kevin Weaver returns to the Castle Douglas Art Gallery with an exhibition of war paintings based on photographs he took while covering the conflicts in Bosnia, Kosovo and Rwanda. Entitled Peace & War, the exhibition also features new, specially mounted oil on glass paintings of Scotland, Cornwall and the Lake District. Weaver moved to Cumbria from London as part of his treatment for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder as a result of his experiences in war zones. (He was shot and wounded in Sarajevo in June 1992 and went on to cover the genocide in Rwanda and the NATO bombing of Kosovo. ) Landscapes now figure alongside his more challenging war-based works.
