Open Eye Gallery in Edinburgh is set to show two exhibitions, by Andrew Restall and Sarah Carrington.

Straddling painting, printmaking and collage, Andrew Restall’s work is known for its expressive abstraction of landscape and place, expressing poetic and subtle modulations of the landscapes around and beyond his home in West Linton. Oxfordshire-born in 1931, and a graduate of Edinburgh College of Art who went on to become Head of Visual Communication at the University of Brighton, Andrew – who died last year – was a much-respected and admired artist, and this Memorial Exhibition of selected works celebrates the breadth of his practice.

Also showing is work by Sarah Carrington, who gained an MA(Hons) in Fine Art in 1999 at Edinburgh College of Art, and began as a full-time artist working in Edinburgh, creating landscape paintings and drawings, since when her work has been exhibited widely throughout the UK, and she has carried out numerous private and public commissions. In 2009 she moved to the north coast of Ireland, finding the dramatic beauty of the coastline constantly inspiring and challenging. Coastal Light is a collection of her new paintings, focusing on the ever-changing light experienced at the shoreline, in emulsion, oil, ink and a variety of mixed media, often incorporating gold leaf.
