Opened in October, Edinburgh’s BirdsNest Gallery has announced two new exhibitions set to last through the winter. Described as all about landscape, Scenes to Admire! explores how artists have portrayed the landscape through history in a realistic, idealised or subjective manners, often using it as a ‘poetic metaphor’ to express their feelings. Over thirty landscape sculptures and paintings will be on display, affording a wide range of extraordinary scenes. Meanwhile, Colin Sutherland: Beautifully Astray showcases the contemporary artist’s work: a graduate of Dundee’s Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design, Colin studied photography and seeks to redefine how landscape is conventionally perceived, with photomontages vibrant in colour and emotion, and incorporating images from the natural and built environment.
