Lewis-based painter Donald Macleod is showing his work at Larks Gallery in Ballater, Aberdeenshire, during March. A native of the island’s Westside, ‘DK’ works from his studio in the village of Shawbost and displays his work at local and national galleries. He studied Art and Design at the University of the Highlands and Islands’ North Uist campus in 2004, continuing to develop on a self-taught basis, developing his own distinctive style, inspired by the awesome landscape on his doorstep, painting in acrylic and oil, spending most weekends at the beach, photographing, sketching and capturing ideas to develop back in the studio. His studio is a converted garage on his croft, and visits can be arranged by appointment.
