Angus Ross Furniture hand-crafts Perthshire wood into exquisite furniture for homes, gardens and public places – sculptural forms with a sense of movement and flow. Comfortable and curvaceous, the pieces are designed by award-winning designer, master craftsman and woodsman Angus Ross. Angus has been innovating with wood for thirty years, but remains curious about the possibilities of sustainable Scottish timber, sourced from woodland and local estates.
Focusing on sustainability involves highly-selective thinning of trees, working with nature and encouraging natural regeneration to improve bio-diversity and the overall health and resilience of the woodland.
Angus works with a team of exceptional, dedicated and highly-skilled craftsmen in a traditional workshop which has seen continuous woodworking since 1886. He and the team specialise in the technique of steam-bending, allowing the creation of curvaceous flowing lines in wood which, combined with traditional cabinet-making techniques makes for uniquely stylish interior and exterior furniture and public commissions., such as memorial benches in wild landscapes and collections for national trails and city gardens.
Another specialisation is bespoke dining tables – often oval, elliptical or round – and coffee tables, console tables and side tables made to suit individual space and requirements. About once a year Angus makes a one-off or limited edition piece of collectible art furniture such as the sculptural Forth Bench, pictured, while the workshop creates cabinets and storage, such as its Whisky Collectors’ cabinets, tamboured drinks cabinets, sideboards, chest of drawers, wardrobes and quirky, unique one-off pieces. Added to this are bespoke ergonomic desks, bedroom furniture, chairs and stools (Angus’ Prism Chair won Best Sustainable Product at Decorex).
The workshop has been commissioned to create functional public art for museums, churches, bars and boardrooms, such as reception desks, boardroom tables, display cabinets and benches, and on occasion has designed and made whole new furniture collections for private houses and public spaces. All this with an eye on natural regeneration, increased bio-diversity, and improving the overall health and resilience of woodland.
