Glasgow International, one of the UK’s largest visual arts festivals, is underway for its ninth edition with over 70 exhibitions and events showcasing work by over 100 artists in over 30 spaces across the city and online. The festival comprises a Commissioned Programme of larger scale commissions and exhibitions along with Across the City, a wider programme of exhibitions and projects selected from proposals by artists, curators and producers who live and work in Glasgow.

Highlights include a new commission by Turner Prize-winning artist Duncan Campbell at Barrowland Ballroom; the festival’s first major Digital Programme, featuring work by over 30 artists on the theme of ‘Attention’, the first posthumous solo exhibition in her homeland of previously unseen drawings and paintings by the late Scottish painter Carol Rhodes (1959-2018) at Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum, Sam Durant’s Iconoclasm, a series of drawings presented by the Common Guild at outdoor sites throughout the city, depicting acts of destruction enacted upon public statues and monuments, the first presentation in Scotland of Total Recall (1987) – a monumental, multi-channel video installation by the American artist Gretchen Bender (1951-2004) at Glasgow Royal Concert Hall; and the Canal Programme in celebration of Scotland’s Year of Coasts and Waters 2020/21.

Other participating venues include the Tramway, the Pipe Factory, the Gallery of Modern Art, the artist-run gallery Celine, Govan Project Space, the Hunterian, Queen’s Park Railway Club and the Modern Institute (Eva Rothschild’s Peak Times, pictured, at Aird’s Lane, and Luke Fowler’s Index Cards and Letters at Osborne Street, both from 11th June).
