Edinburgh’s Open Eye Gallery is showing two contrasting artists whose painstaking craft is evident in their pieces: a painter with a fascination for type and calligraphy, Susie Leiper paints and writes in all sizes on all sorts of media from large canvases to small pieces of wood and artist books, often with mountain or book-related themes, layered with script, drawing on her life-long interest in Chinese art and culture. Based in Edinburgh, she exhibits widely and has won several awards with her work at home in renowned collections such as the National Library of Scotland, the British Museum and The Royal Collection.
