Compass Gallery, Glasgow: John Inglis – New Collages

John Inglis - Ruined Cottage, collage, mixed media on paper

6th – 29th February

Glasgow’s longest-established contemporary art gallery, Compass Gallery exhibits newly-emerging and established Scottish contemporaries.

Born in Glasgow, John Inglis, PPRSW RGI  HAWI has enjoyed a distinguished career as an artist, and was President of the Royal Society of Painters in Watercolour for eleven years until 2016. His first one-man show at Compass Gallery took place in 1980.

Line, shape, structure and composition are fundamental to his work, and his new, richly-coloured collages recall fragments of landscape and coast in watercolour and oil, drawing inspiration from Cornish and North-Welsh landscapes, and Orkney’s archeology. The works are described as being refined abstractions, emphasising surface.
