Until 8th March
A free exhibition at City Art Centre celebrating Edinburgh’s neo-classical architecture, as seen through the eyes of two architectural photographers, working half a century apart, Edwin Smith and Colin McLean.
Smith (1912-72) was described as ‘a genius at photography’, and provided the photographs for The Making of Classical Edinburgh by A J Youngson, published in 1966, while McLean has spent the last two years re-interpreting Smith’s evocative black and white images. A homage to Smith’s photography and a reflection on the changes in Edinburgh’s townscape over the last 50 years, the exhibition is accompanied by a new publication, and a varied events programme, and a revised edition of Youngson’s ground-breaking book is being published.
Winning entries from a public photographic competition, supported by Jessops, will be shown alongside Classical Edinburgh.
