Christmas Cheer

It’s been a bit of drink-inspired few weeks. First there was an interview with Stewart Brewing about its Craft Kitchen where you can brew your own beer. Then there was a visit to the Edinburgh Gin Distillery in the capital’s West End, where during a fun afternoon learning how to make cocktails, I got to taste the latest Edinburgh Gin – a Christmas gin featuring frankincense and myrrh. And, of course, there was the tour of Islay which involved several whiskies and some of Islay Ales’ brews. It’s all set me thinking about the raft of craft drinks that I’ve come across this year. Along side bottles of their product, many of them offer hands-on experiences of creating the products– so whether it’s peat cutting and filling your own bottle with whisky from the cask on Islay, choosing exotic Botanicals with which to create your own gin or crafting your own beer for a party keg, they seem to be the gift to give this year.
