I love Nomads Tent for its sheer treasure trove of rugs, jewellery, ceramics and objet sourced from Iran, Turkey, India and other countries with authentic nomadic, tribal and village crafts, For food lovers there are always fantastic ceramic dishes, bowls and platters to enhance any bowl of hummus.
.Rufus Reade set up the shop in 1983 after a 12000 mile journey round Turkey exploring and purchasing kilims and rugs. The business has since diversified into furniture, textiles, home artefacts, and jewellery.
In February 2015 The Nomads Tent was transferred by Rufus Reade to Andrew Haughton.
For unique presents –it worth paying a visit to the Christmas Bazaar which will also be complemented by a small exhibition of traditional and contemporary icons. The traditional works are from Rufus Reade’s own collection and the contemporary examples are painted by renowned iconographer Basia Mindewicz, founder of the Edinburgh School of Icon Painting.
