SETTING
As we dig out our scarves and winter coats, it’s time to enjoy the warm welcome of the capital’s eating places. One of the Old Town’s landmark buildings is the Hub – home not just to the Edinburgh International Festival but also Cafe Hub.
FOOD
This Royal Mile favourite turns a teatime treat into a treasure. Afternoon tea for 2 (£17.50) sees freshly-baked icing-sugar-dusted scones arrive beside fresh cream, raspberry jam and a smile of blackcurrant coulis. With delicious home baking and the lightest of shortbread, a cup of tea – or coffee – is a warming welcome we just adore.
At other times, the menu – with its “Hubmade” philosophy of local ingredients freshly cooked – make it a great stop for lunch or breakfast. The lunchtime treats usually include freshly made soup, the Hub’s famous beef burger and a tourist-pleasing haggis, neeps and tatties with whisky sauce. And, as Christmas approaches, keep an eye open as the Hub adds festive specials to its treasures.
