Inspired by the natural world, landscape and floral painter Lesley Skeates is particularly attracted by the challenge of painting water, from quiet reflections in a pond to the turbulent surf of the sea. She works directly from nature in all weathers using palette knives and thick oil paint to capture fleeting moments of light and weather in one sitting.
The gallery welcomes two artists new to the gallery. A former lecturer in ceramics at Glasgow School of Art, Borders-based Douglas Davies RSW now focuses on painting, developing his work from regular sketching trips locally and abroad, while Edinburgh-based artist and photographer Robert Pereira Hind specialises in trees on gold backgrounds, using acrylic paint and organic photographic pigment layered on gilded wooden backgrounds, then coated with shellac and art glazes. There is also a mixed exhibition featuring regular gallery artists.
