We were saddened to hear on 10th August 2022 of the death of Raymond Briggs CBE – a uniquely talented storyteller and illustrator.
A touring exhibition by the House of Illustration, Raymond Briggs: A Retrospective is the first retrospective of the author-illustrator of some of the most popular and influential children’s books and graphic novels ever published. Displaying Briggs’ original artwork, the exhibition charts, over his fifty-year career, the development of much-loved books such as The Snowman, When the Wind Blows and Fungus the Bogeyman – testament to his skills as a draughtsman, typographer and storyteller – and highlights the books’ humour, sensitivity, innovation and sometimes subversive nature.
A donation of £3 is suggested to view this exhibition. Photography is not permitted.
Founded by illustrator Quentin Blake and based in London, House of Illustration is described as the UK’s centre for illustration and graphics, exploring illustration from around the world, celebrating its rich and varied history and championing emerging talent. Currently closed, on its reopening later this year it will be known as the Quentin Blake Centre for Illustration.
