A ideal way to warm up this winter is a session in the traditional skittle alley at Scotland’s oldest pub, the Sheep Heid Inn, in Duddingston village, Edinburgh. Follow it with the pub’s special winter warming dinner for two, which includes wine for £29. The Sheep Heid recently reopened after an extensive restoration, opening up the premises to more relaxed dining. You can still stand around the bar though – it’s been that way since 1360.
