No sooner has the Pommery Champagne Bar disappeared from its Festival stint in the historic Signet Library in Edinburgh’s Parliament Square, than a new café opens.
Gran Caffè is being operated by the award-winning caterer, Heritage Portfolio, the company behind the popular cafes at Hopetoun, the Portrait Gallery and the Modern Art galleries. The Signet Library was first opened in 1822 and is home to the WS Society. It has always been a focal point for Edinburgh’s lawyers, but was only rarely accessible to the public. Now it is set to become a firm day-time favourite on the Royal Mile. Gran Caffè is offering the very best in Italian-inspired coffee, pastries, lunches and afternoon tea, where baci d’angelo adds an Italian twist to the classic British teatime treat.
