After the flurry of new openings in the summer, it’s good to note some restaurants notching up anniversaries. Wedgwood the Restaurant on Edinburgh’s Royal Mile is celebrating five years in business. Having had a makeover earlier in the year, its reputation continues to spread. In fact chef and co-owner, Paul Wedgwood, was demonstrating his haggis recipe on French TV during the Festival.
France 24’s Culture Show filmed him preparing it and then serving it to the presenters, Eve Jackson and Aziza Nait Sabiba in the restaurant. Down in Leith at Dock Place, Mithas, the restaurant set on changing our perceptions of Indian food, is celebrating its first birthday. Its flavour combinations are likely to surprise, but it is true to its family heritage of quality. The owners are sons of Khushi Mohammed, founder of the Edinburgh institution Kushi’s, yet the Mithas space is very different from what has gone before and the approach to food and cooking very modern.
