Significant anniversaries seem to be a theme of the restaurant scene in Edinburgh just now … no sooner had Pierre Levicky celebrated 25 years since he founded the Pierre Victoire empire, than Dean Gassabi pops up to mark 15 years in business. Pierre had a weekend of celebrations at his Eyre Place eatery at the end of April. There was also an art exhibition which showcased three generations of his family’s paintings. The Pierre Victoire story began with a restaurant serving hearty French food at great prices in Victoria Street in the Old Town. Remember the breath of fresh air this blew through the Edinburgh dining establishment?
A decade later Dean Gassabi opened Maison Bleue in Victoria Street, and he runs it now with his daughter Layla (pictured). Behind the vivid blue façade, Dean’s French and Algerian roots influence his use of Scottish produce. His celebrations – which include lunch for £5 and various themed events – last until August.
