Complementing its current Nature’s Palette exhibition, Whitehouse Gallery in Kirkcudbright is hosting a solo exhibition of work by Kate Bentley RI, on the theme of ‘An intriguing use of narrative through the imagery of the traditional kimono’.
Kate, who is Dumfries & Galloway-based, is exhibiting in the Gallery’s upstairs* ‘Blue Room’ – a professional painter since 1999, working predominantly in oils and watercolours, and a member of the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolour and the Society of Women Artists. She has exhibited in galleries across the UK and has paintings held in private and public collections.
The traditional Kimono is a work of art in its own right, often used to express stories of family and personal identity, symbolically and autobiographically, and Kate has used this as a vehicle for her own layers of narrative and hidden personal stories, while displaying her interest in pattern and texture.
Tying-in with Kate’s show, the gallery is displaying a new collection of naked raku pots by John Scott from Sourdust Pottery, alongside ceramics by Archie McCall.
*please note that this exhibition is upstairs, and regrettably there is no wheelchair access.
