Edinburgh’s Scottish National Portrait Gallery has always been a special place for a coffee break or lunch and has been missed in recent months as the Queen Street building has undergone its transformation.

The gallery reopens on 1 December, 2011 and the café will be back in business. The good news is that it will be a larger space, but run by the same organisation as before, Heritage Portfolio, so expect super salads and soups as well as some of the best scones around. Artmag hears The Snug will quickly become a favourite spot for a cosy relax after exploring some of the 3,500 paintings, sculptures and drawings from the National Gallery’s collection. (– FL)
