An exhibition at Kilmarnock’s Dick Institute offers an insight into the diverse range of practice of more than sixty artists, in a showcase of creative talent across Ayrshire. The show displays a broad selection of high-quality work, demonstrating conceptual and technical originality and innovation, with relevant and thought-provoking themes, and forms part of East Ayrshire Leisure’s 10th Anniversary celebration programme.

Awards presented for outstanding works include the Robert Colquhoun Prize, the Dick Institute Purchase Award, the People’s Choice and a Young People’s Award, with judging by artist Professor Christine Borland and arts writer Jan Patience.

Awardees are as follows: The Robert Colquhoun Prize was won by Jamie Cooper for Windowlicker* (pictured), while The Dick Institute Purchase Prizes were won by Eòghann Mac Colla and Tom Lightbody; the Young People’s Award was awarded to Aimee Banks for Island. The People’s Choice vote is open to visitors to nominate their favourite work, with the opportunity to vote in the gallery throughout the exhibition.

*Windowlicker is made using shop signage techniques and materials commonly found above shop doors etc. in shopping centres, described as ‘essentially a pricetag with eyeballs but it’s also a re-appropriation or mutation of consumer capitalism’s object fetishism’.
