Larks Gallery in Ballater in Aberdeenshire is featuring Ann Ruddy this month. Ann studied Graphic Design at Edinburgh College and her painting varies between still-lifes and landscape, the former focusing on everyday objects found at home or the local thrift shop, or seasonal fruits from her garden in Perthshire. Her landscapes are painted en plein air around her locality, contrasting between sunny days and dramatic Scottish winters’ weather, and ‘though stemming from real life, reflect a more semi-abstract approach using rich colours and simple shapes with thin veils of colour and contrasting thick impasto paintwork.
