Andy Cross was born in Hamilton in 1944 and graduated from Glasgow School of Art in Jewellery and Silversmithing. After pursuing a career in teaching Andy decided to devote his time to painting and for the past decade has worked full time as an artist. During his teaching career he continued to make jewellery on commission for several years, then in 1985 decided to concentrate on painting, particularly his favourite subjects of Landscape and Still Life.
Most of his inspiration comes from the surrounding countryside of his home in South Lanarkshire and from his frequent visits to France. In his Landscape paintings he is more interested in creating an atmosphere rather than a photographic image. This can be either the damp dreich Scottish weather to the sunlit paintings of Provence.
In 2006-2007 Andy’s paintings were used as posters for exhibitions featuring Scottish artists held on behalf of RNIB Scotland at Bonham’s Edinburgh. IHis work has also been accepted for the RSW (Royal Society of Painters in Watercolour), RGI (Royal Glasgow Institute), SSA (Sottish Society of Artists) and Paisley Institute Exhibitions.
Andy’s work can be found in many significant public and private collections including the collection of the Bank of Scotland, The Atholl Trust, East Kilbride Development Corporation and Baring’s Investment Group.
This solo exhibition will feature 25 still life and landscape paintings.
