Edinburgh’s Arusha Gallery has collaborated with Rhiannon Rebecca Salisbury to curate a new group exhibition, Ancient Deities, by inviting eighteen artists to invoke, channel and create an ancient deity.
The show seeks to bring to the fore awe-inspiring and mystical entities and old gods, the like of which have been seated deep in the general consciousness. We see them in ancient and modern mythology, reinterpreted in media, films and TV programmes, and the show presents a melting pot of artistic responses, helping to channel ‘a reimagining of a world, reawakening the past, responding to the present, and reconceptualising the future’.
Artists taking part are: Rhiannon Rebecca Salisbury, Leo Robinson, Paige Perkins, Byzantia Harlow, Matt Macken, Norman Hyams, Victor Seaward, Lindsey Mendick, Jake Grewal, Lena Brazin, Ella Walker, Tahmina Negmat, Charlotte Edey, Michaela Yearwood-Dan, Jessica Wetherly, Billy Fraser, Alia Hamaoui and Rebecca Harper.
