The C/O Berlin is currently hosting its first exhibition featuring works from the Susanne von Meiss Collection. The result is Allure – Berlin’s most important fashion photography exhibition of the season.
“It shimmers quietly and timelessly from among all the rapidly changing fashions, trends and opinions. It appears only briefly in a fleeting combination of elegance, gracefulness and moment. Stance, attitude or ALLURE is intangible, indescribable, inconceivable and unattainable in the perpetual murmur of zeitgeist.”
ALLURE, this magical french feeling, this can be loosely be translated into English as “style” or “elegance”, really does shimmer quietly and timelessly through all of the 250 images, dating from the 1920’s until today. The exhibition features photographs from photography legends including Henri Cartier-Bresson, Horst P. Horst August Sander, Richard Avedon and Irving Penn, and contemporary artists such as Nan Goldin, Daido Moriyama and Juergen Teller.
Two vintage photographs by Richard Alvedon from the 1950’s were the initial inspiration for the Susanne von Meiss Collection. For 25 years the Swiss journalist, publicist and entrepreneur has been collecting photography with special focus on ALLURE – a personal compilation that transcends individual genres, styles and artists.
Since 2000, C/O Berlin has presented a lively cultural program with an international standing. As an exhibition venue for photography , C/O Berlin shows works by international renowned artists and promotes emerging talent.
