Greenock-born Alison Watt is one of the most highly-regarded painters in the UK. The daughter of a painter, she studied at Glasgow School of Art, winning the National Portrait Gallery’s annual award and becoming known for her paintings of figures, before beginning to concentrate on fabrics, such as those that form the backdrop to figure-painting. You can read all about Alison’s work in an interview in the Galleries’ blog, as part of International Women’s Week 2021.
