The Modern Institute in Glasgow’s new exhibition is The Weather Channel, presenting Alex Dordoy’s body of new paintings that develop visual language he has employed since his 2015 show at the gallery, featuring humanity-free other-worldly landscapes and altered found images that introduce seas and mountains into the antiseptic context of 21st-century hi-tech and pandemic. Deriving inspiration from the flattened colours and clean lines of vintage travel posters, Dordoy’s detailed and technically-accomplished acrylics have a heightened sense atmosphere and a pronounced geometry. The exhibition can be viewed at the gallery’s Osborne Street space, or online via its viewing rooms.
