Adjust / Adapt is a major new group exhibition showcasing and celebrating the transformative power of creativity and craft to transcend challenging times. Mounted by the Scottish Furniture Makers Association (SFMA) and Visual Arts Scotland (VAS), the online show is available on The Association’s website and Edinburgh City Art Centre’s website, and showcases work by makers, designers and artists working across Scotland. The theme is how people in the crafts and design sector are responding creatively to the current Covid-19 pandemic and the climate emergency, and how domestic interiors are being adapted in the light of these, as multigenerational sanctuaries, workspaces, classrooms, fitness and entertainment settings.
The major exhibition also marks the 20th anniversary of the founding of The SFMA and features a greatly-varied range of bespoke pieces by 25 SFMA members including Isabelle Moore, Daniel Lacey, Chris Scotland, Duke Christie, Angus Ross and Gavin Robertson, alongside a number of VAS members. A series of online events accompanies the exhibition, featuring a range of industry representatives, each setting out to explore, engage and empower on key issues such as Covid recovery, early-stage career development and sales.
The SFMA website also includes a series of beautiful short videos by Easydays Creative, capturing the displays, or Compositions, taking us on a journey through the series of ‘still life’ assemblies of works, and highlighting the materials and textures. These are set against a soundscape by artist / composer Kim Moore.
