Featured artist for April and May at the Flat Cat Gallery in Lauder is abstract painter Annie Green, who finds abstract values in the landscapes of her East Lothian home. Excited by wild, open spaces and big skies, and inspired by textures in fields and woods and the restless unpredictable beauty of the sea, Annie is driven by a love of colour, and excited by the way the weather sweeps in and the light changes moment-by-moment. She explains her process of creating pictures, she says, ‘The process of painting involves many layers of collage and acrylic paint, some translucent, some opaque, sometimes previous layers are buried, scratched back into, so that the painting’s history reflects the layering and complexity of the land itself. Painting for me is not about recreating the reality of the landscape, but rather the remembered landscape and experience of being in it. My paintings have their beginnings in real places and experiences, but the process of creating also involves memory, intuition and response to the materials, so that the work evolves into abstract pieces which I hope will have resonance for others too.’

The Gallery supports the Own Art finance scheme, which makes purchasing artworks more affordable through payment by instalments.
