Another recent reincarnation of a capital landmark has been put to the test with the autumn rugby internationals.
Murrayfield House, renovated as a boutique hotel, has embraced the ethos of a Highland tavern for its Bothy Restaurant. An urban inn, it offers traditional pub food amid stone walls, polished wood, leather seats and black and white photos.
Homely dishes include cullen skink, haggis balls, steak and ale pie, burgers, fish and chips, jacket potatoes. The Drinkery has all the usual beers, wines and whisky, but also some “garden garnish” cocktails pairing premium spirits with fresh fruits. A pint after the Calcutta Cup will never be the same again.
