Note: opening postponed from 8th to 15th March.
A Woman’s Touch at the BirdsNest Gallery in Edinburgh is a celebration of women artists ahead of International Women’s Day on 8th March. Throughout art history, women have been considered foremost as muses. While they have served as catalysts for inspiration, their own thoughts, dreams and artistic abilities have often been minimised or dismissed. This exhibition sets out both to acknowledge their influence on male artists such as Andrew Fitzpatrick, John Bellany, William Crosbie and Jamie O’Dea and highlight their own contributions through works by Barbara Rae, Sheila MacMillan, Victoria Crowe, Mary Armour and Elizabeth Blackadder. Launched in October last year and located in an A-listed early Victorian building, the Gallery retains most of its original decor, and its beautiful interior houses a main gallery, exhibition space, mini-cinema, studio and extensive art library.
