Lisa Hooper: Wildlife Prints at the Maclaurin Art Gallery in Ayr features woodcuts, linocuts, etchings and a small number of less common printmaking techniques by one of Scotland’s foremost wildlife artists. All the works, predominantly of birds and other wildlife with some Scottish landscapes, are hand-drawn, hand-cut and-hand printed by Lisa in small editions. Lisa photographs birds in the field, then studies the images in her studio to see which ones might translate well to print, often drawing the birds in different poses or rearranging them until the image “gels” and she can decide which print medium or technique best suits to depict it.
