A group exhibition, Struck! at Edinburgh’s Whitespace gallery combines the talents of visual artists Trude Blows, Georgina Bown, Matt Thompson and Siri France, whose specialities span painting, photography and printmaking; taking its title from a sailor’s cry when a vessel strikes rock, the exhibition of paintings, prints, photography and sculpture is connected by sea themes.
Georgina Bown SSA divides her time between printmaking, drawing, sculpting and teaching. Living near the sea in East Lothian has formed a fascination with huge, man-made vessels.
Working in paint and graphite, Siri France expresses how it feels to be in the natural environment. Her group of panoramic watercolours and small oil compositions investigates shapes and geometries of rocks and the land.
Photographer Matt Thompson is drawn to the wrecked, the strange, the dark and the dramatic. His pictures explore close observation of landscape and a subtle sense of human presence within it.
Trude Blows makes collages incorporating old sea charts, drawings and paintings to express the drama and power of the west coast of Scotland.
