This year celebrating its 50th anniversary exhibition, the Scottish Potters Association is at the vanguard of demonstrating the beauty which can be achieved by putting a lump of clay in skilful hands.

The theme of the exhibition derives from the saying attributed to Jonas Salk, inventor of the polio vaccine, that, ‘Good parents give their children roots and wings. Roots to know where home is, and wings to fly away and exercise what’s been taught them’. In this case, ‘roots’ relates to the idea that makers should acknowledge their history and teachers, while the wings reference is envisaged as showcasing the best of Scottish ceramics in all their forms. The exhibition will later tour to Haddington, Inverness, West Kilbride, Inverurie and Aberdeen.

Also showing concurrently is an seo*, a selection of oils by Andrew Sinclair, whose work is pictured below. A Duncan of Jordanstone (Dundee) alumnus, Andrew specialises in real-life scenes, intimate compositions, larger group pieces, local landscapes and still lifes.

*’here’ in Gaelic.

The Gallery supports the Own Art finance scheme, which makes purchasing artworks more affordable through payment by instalments.
