Edinburgh’s Rafiki Gallery, which facilitates exhibitions in various spaces in the city, is mounting an exhibition of selected work by Jacob Littlejohn and Martyn McKenzie, exploring themes of place, identity, memory, and the landscape. Tollcross framing studio Detail’s new venue hosts the Gallery’s latest display, and according to Gallery founder Leo Sartain, the exhibition aims to ‘encourage people to consider their personal connection to exploration, the role of spectator within the work and relationships between nature, reality, landscape and still life’.

Based in New York, where he is studying at the Hunter College of Art, painter Jacob Littlejohn recently graduated from Glasgow School of Art and has participated in group and solo shows throughout the UK, receiving several awards. He completed a Graduate Residency programme at Leith School of Art, and his work explores notions of space, abstraction and nature.

Glasgow-based artist, musician and singer Martyn McKenzie’s work develops ideas from encounters with spaces. He has been widely exhibited, including as a finalist for the Sunday Times Watercolour Competition at London’s Mall Galleries. He has worked in art education, delivered several community art commissions.
