Call of the Wild at Artisan& Gallery in Aberfeldy features nature-inspired works by painter and stained glass artist Lorna C Radbourne and woodworker Andy Claydon.
Lorna creates painted, kiln-fired glass which she then incorporates into her stained glass sculptures and hangings. The resulting detail accentuates the native wildlife seen in her rural Perthshire surroundings and on regular trips to the coast. The exhibition also includes a series of watercolours she painted while in isolation with Covid.
Andy makes things out of wood, whether large or small, rough-hewn or highly finished, functional or decorative. He uses mainly native timbers such as oak, ash, elm, yew, laburnum and fruit woods along with some non-native and sometimes unusual species such as gorse and rhododendron. All the wood comes from dead or dying trees found locally or is reclaimed or repurposed. The lines and forms are generally already in the timber, otherwise he is influenced by the simple, flowing curves in Scandinavian design or the more intricate lines of Celtic art.
