Established in 2002, the Glenfiddich Artists in Residence programme brings artists from around the world to spend three months living and working at the Glenfiddich Distillery, creating new works inspired by their experience. This summer the distillery is playing host to artists from Canada, China, Finland, Taiwan, South Korea and Scotland.
The first in a series of exhibitions features Toronto-based painter Derek Liddington, who has been creating large landscapes which bring together local folklore, current social affairs, western art history and individual stories into one narrative. Also to exhibit are Scottish artist Lorna Phillips, whose vessels made from clay dug up from the banks of the River Fiddich are inspired by the surrounding hills, distilling equipment and old ceramic whisky crocks, and Finnish artist Juha Saraste (pictured below), who has been creating a life-size red deer stag from discarded metal parts.
Worth £15,000, the Glenfiddich Residency Award includes a monthly stipend, a house and studio and a production budget to create new work. Since 2002 the programme has hosted over 180 artists from 20 countries. Admission is free.
